YILAN (TVBS News) — The Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area (太平山國家森林遊樂區) will be closed starting Friday (Nov. 15) as a precautionary measure prompted by the approaching of Typhoon Usagi (颱風天兔), the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's (林業及自然保育署) Yilan (宜蘭) branch announced on Thursday.

Aiming to ensure visitor safety as the typhoon approaches, the agency cited concerns from the Central Weather Administration's (中央氣象署) forecast in a statement, which predicted the typhoon could impact Taiwan's climate.

Located in a remote mountainous area, Taipingshan faces potential road closures and disruptions on routes such as Taiwan Provincial Highway 7, Highway 7A, and Yilan Route 51 during heavy rainfall. The agency emphasized the importance of this preemptive measure to safeguard tourists.

Officials confirmed the closure of eight nature trails within the park, including the "Jiuzhize Nature Trail" (鳩之澤自然步道), "Jianqing Huaigu Trail" (見晴懷古步道), and "Taiwan Beech Trail" (台灣山毛櫸步道). These closures align with efforts to minimize risks during the typhoon's passage.

The Yilan branch stated they would adjust the reopening dates of the park and its trails based on post-typhoon damage assessments and environmental preparations. The agency urged visitors to stay informed about updates and plan their trips accordingly.
