TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台電) announced on Tuesday (Nov. 12) that 432 new recruits in the "distribution line maintenance category" have begun nearly six months of training at the Kaohsiung Training Center. Trainees must wear 15 kilograms of gear for pole-climbing exercises and learn various tasks, including live-line testing simulation and wire crimping.
Speaking to the media, Lai Pin-ying (賴品縈), originally a nurse born in 1992, switched careers to join Taiwan Power Company due to family encouragement. Lai stated that although the work is tough, it offers a high cost-performance ratio. Meanwhile, Chen Hsing-ju (陳星汝), a 25-year-old former food blogger, shared that she often gets bruises during training but enjoys the challenging nature of the job.
Wu Yung-tsung (吳永宗), deputy director of the Fengshan District Office at Taiwan Power Company, emphasized the difficulty in developing power repair personnel, noting the need for trainees to master equipment operation to ensure safety. Taiwan Power Company highlighted that the 432 recruits of 2024 must undergo more than a year of professional training before becoming full-time employees.
These rigorous training programs aim to prepare recruits for the demanding tasks ahead, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the challenges of power line maintenance. As the program progresses, trainees will continue to hone their skills, contributing to Taiwan's robust power infrastructure.
