TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tainan City Animal Health Inspection and Protection Office (AHIPO, 台南市動物防疫保護處) announced on Friday (Nov. 8) that it will begin accepting online applications for adopting 16 confiscated pedigree dogs on Saturday. The office confiscated 17 dogs in August but deemed one unsuitable for adoption. The review period will run until next Friday, with the public lottery scheduled for Nov. 22 at 10 a.m., the AHIPO stated.
The remaining 16 dogs, housed at the city's Shanhua Animal Shelter (動物之家善化站), range in age from 1 to over 10 years. The group comprises five males and 11 females. The office will screen applicants after the registration deadline, excluding those blacklisted under the "Animal Protection Act" (動保法), those with records of relinquishing pets, or those disagreeing with the lottery process and terms.
The AHIPO Deputy Director Hung Chen-kai (洪振凱) stated that if multiple applicants register for a single dog, the office will conduct a public lottery and announce the result on the same day, with the entire process being live-streamed. Each dog will have one primary adopter and four backup adopters. Lottery winners are required to complete a home visit record form for follow-up, Hung added.
