TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The head of Taiwan's National Security Bureau on Wednesday (Nov. 6) highlighted the evolving landscape of Taiwan-U.S. relations amid the ongoing U.S. presidential election and emphasized that the international situation and bilateral ties will enter a new phase regardless of the election's outcome.
Before an interpellation session at the Legislative Yuan's Foreign and National Defense Committee (外交及國防委員會), NSB Director-General Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥) addressed media inquiries regarding national security's response to the U.S. election.
In discussing cross-strait policies, Tsai remarked that the U.S. is likely to maintain its China-averse, Taiwan-friendly stance. He emphasized Taiwan's commitment to ongoing strategic communication with both the current and future U.S. administrations. He elaborated on Taiwan's intention to bolster bilateral ties by concentrating on critical areas of cooperation, including defense, trade, and supply chain initiatives.
Originally, the committee had scheduled Minister of National Defense Wellington Koo (顧立雄) to attend the session. However, a last-minute change saw a deputy minister take his place due to an urgent meeting at the Presidential Office. As Taiwan confronts upcoming geopolitical challenges, Tsai’s comments highlight the necessity of strategic dialogue and collaboration between Taiwan and the U.S.
