TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Thailand Trade and Economic Office (泰國貿易經濟辦事處) announced on its website on Tuesday (Nov. 5) that travelers from 93 countries, including Taiwan, can now enjoy visa-free entry for short-term tourism and business activities for up to 60 days.
Despite widespread social media rumors, the office has remained silent on claims of granting Taiwan permanent visa-free status. These rumors emerged after the 2024 Taipei International Travel Fair (Taipei ITF, 台北國際旅展), where speculation about the policy gained traction. The office has not confirmed or denied these claims, maintaining a low profile on the matter, according to a report from ETtoday.
More importantly, the Thai government is considering requiring travelers eligible for visa-free entry to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before entering the country. This authorization would be valid for a single use per entry, even though the government has yet to announce the implementation date for this requirement.
Prominent travel blogger and flight expert "Brian In Travel" (布萊N) stirred online discussions by sharing on his Facebook fan page that the Thailand Trade and Economic Office announced Taiwan's permanent visa-free status. This statement later fueled debate among online users.
