TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A bus crashed into a store on Songde Road (松德路) in Taipei's Xinyi District (信義區) at noon on Tuesday (Nov. 5), leaving no injuries but causing significant damage. Capital Bus Co. (首都客運公司) has pledged full compensation for the store's losses.
Lee Chien-wen (李建文), general manager of Capital Bus, explained that the driver temporarily stopped but forgot to engage the handbrake. He noted that standard procedures require engaging the handbrake during temporary stops and placing wheel chocks on slopes.
Lee stated that the company would conduct a comprehensive review of this incident and assured the company that it would take full responsibility for all losses after contacting the store owner regarding compensation. The bus company dispatched a tow truck, and officers managed traffic at the scene.
The local village head confirmed the driver's oversight and noted that nearby poles and a traffic island prevented further damage. Xinyi Police Precinct's (信義警分局) traffic officers found the bus's rear severely damaged and the store's arcade ceiling destroyed. Police also confirmed no alcohol was involved and are investigating the cause.
