TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) on Sunday (Nov. 3) expressed gratitude to pioneering companies that have embraced the city's initiative to foster an animal-friendly environment. He pledged to continue efforts in transforming Taipei into a haven for pets and their owners.
In February 2024, the Taipei City Animal Protection Office (台北市動物保護處) opened 16 dog parks for public "adoption" to provide more comfortable spaces for pets. The office held the country's first dog park adoption ceremony on Sunday, where Chiang presented a certificate of appreciation to Vetnostrum (永鴻國際生技公司) for adopting the Meiti Dog Activity Area in Zhongshan District.
Chiang cited Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) statistics, highlighting that one in four households nationwide owns a pet. Taipei has designated 21 dog parks and activity areas across its 12 administrative districts. Since 2024, Taipei has allowed private entities to adopt 16 dog parks, aiming to channel more resources into making the city more animal-friendly.
The Animal Protection Office explained that adopters could host animal protection or epidemic prevention activities at the parks without venue fees. They can also apply for subsidies and tax deductions, enhancing corporate brand influence.
The initiative represents a significant step toward integrating community involvement in animal welfare. As more companies participate, Taipei moves closer to its goal of becoming a model city for pet-friendly living.
