TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Friday (Nov. 1) explained that local governments have long relied on data from the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) to decide on work and school suspensions.
Typhoon Kong-rey left Taipei streets littered with debris and fallen trees. Despite the damage, the city maintained regular work and school schedules, sparking public dissatisfaction and calls for a post-disaster leave policy discussion.
During a Legislative Yuan (立法院) session, Cho emphasized the need for more precise and real-time data to aid local governments in making informed decisions.
Cho recounted his experience navigating around fallen trees on his way to the Legislative session, highlighting the urgent need for effective management to restore Taipei's appearance swiftly.
