TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central News Agency (CNA, 中央通訊社) chairman confirmed on Wednesday (Oct. 30) the nomination of veteran journalist Hu Wan-ling (胡婉玲) as its new president, stating that the board will discuss and finalize the appointment. Chairman Lee Yung-te (李永得) emphasized that the proposal has been formally submitted, and the hiring process will commence following board approval.
Hu, who has 36 years of experience in journalism, has held various roles, including news anchor and producer at CTS and FTV and vice general manager of the news communication group. She retired in mid-September, citing personal reasons, though observers believe her departure was less than voluntary. Under Article 21 of the CNA's charter, the chairman nominates the president, who oversees agency affairs, and the board must approve the appointment.
The Ministry of Culture (文化部), which supervises the agency, has expressed its respect for the decision-making autonomy of its affiliated organizations. Minister Lee Yung commented, "We completely respect their decision according to their own organizational setup regulations."
