TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists warned on Tuesday (Oct. 29) that Typhoon Kong-Rey (康芮颱風) will peak in its impact on Taiwan by Thursday, with the highest chances of work and school suspension in Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Pingtung.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) plans to issue a sea typhoon warning Tuesday evening, projecting the storm to intensify its effects on Taiwan starting Wednesday. Typhoon Kong-Rey could make landfall between the border of Hualien and Taitung and the Hengchun Peninsula by Thursday evening.
Meteorologist Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) noted that the typhoon is moving quickly and is expected to gradually leave Taiwan by Friday, with rain weakening by evening and reduced rainfall over the weekend.
On Wednesday, the outer circulation of Typhoon Kong-Rey will bring scattered showers to regions north of Hsinchu and the Yilan and Hualien areas, with localized rain expected in the afternoon in central and southern mountainous areas, Taitung, and Pingtung.
