TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Chain Store Corporation (PCSC, 統一超商) announced on Monday (Oct. 28) the opening of its eighth X-STORE, located at National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU, 國立台灣海洋大學). This new store targets digital-native consumers and significantly expands Taiwan's cashier-less retail landscape.
X-STORE 8, developed in collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI, 工研院), utilizes optical radar image recognition technology instead of infrared for product identification. This advanced AI system automatically detects items and updates the mobile cloud shopping cart, allowing seamless checkout.
The store offers over 1,600 products and introduced four new refrigerators, expanding its range of fresh and frozen goods to meet student demands.
Observing a high acceptance of new technology among Generation Z students, 7-11 has seen significant benefits from X-STOREs at Shih Hsin University (SHU, 世新大學) and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST, 國立高雄科技大學), with nearly 1,000 daily visitors on average.
Since launching the X-STORE concept in 2018, excluding the newly opened X-STORE 8, 7-11 has established seven such stores across Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu.
