TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taichung Metro (台中捷運, TMRT) unveiled a new video, "A Day in Taichung Metro" (台中捷運的一天), on Monday (Oct. 28) to showcase the behind-the-scenes operations of its 24-hour service. The video aims to inform the public about the extensive work that continues after passengers return home safely each day.
TMRT officials noted that Taichung City has become Taiwan's second-largest special municipality, surpassing a population of 2.85 million in 2024.
Every day, Taichung Metro serves over 40,000 passengers, ensuring their safe and timely arrival through strict adherence to standard operating procedures. Even after the last train departs and station gates close, the 18 metro stations remain lit for ongoing tasks. Many of these activities, including maintenance and inspections, can only commence after the last train has left.
Following the launch of the first Green Line, the city government is pushing forward with rail construction and urban development. The second Blue Line is slated to begin construction next year, with a goal of completion within a decade. Once finished, it will form a cross-network with the Green Line, connecting mountain and coastal routes to the Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taiwan Railways, and the airport, thus integrating Greater Taichung's transportation.
To shed light on the work of TMRT staff, the video highlights scenes not typically seen by the public. In the early hours, the control center and work crews ensure power is cut on all three tracks before maintenance teams begin equipment upkeep. Meanwhile, station staff and security conduct thorough inspections of public areas, machine rooms, and equipment, checking for hidden cameras in restrooms.
