TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei District Court (台北地院) released Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying's (應曉薇) assistant on Friday (Oct. 25), on bail of NT$5 million in connection with the Core Pacific City (京華城) scandal.
Authorities also restricted Wu Shun-min (吳順民) from leaving the country or traveling by sea. Wu was detained in August after a search, and prosecutors recently requested his release on bail. Wu's wife completed the bail process at the court in the afternoon, securing his release after 57 days in detention.
Investigators uncovered evidence from Core Pacific Group's (威京集團) tax records, revealing Wu's dual role as an unpaid adviser to Ying and a paid consultant for a Core Pacific subsidiary. Wu facilitated meetings that led to relaxed zoning regulations for Core Pacific City, making him a functional defendant in the corruption case.
Currently, the case involves the detention of seven individuals, including former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), former Ko campaign finance director Lee Wen-tsung (李文宗), former Department of Compulsory Military Service commissioner Chu Yea-hu (朱亞虎), former Taipei deputy mayor Pong Cheng-sheng (彭振聲), Core Pacific Group chairman Sheen Ching-jing (沈慶京), Ying, and Wu. Wu's release leaves six individuals still in custody.
