PENGHU (TVBS News) — Penghu Defense Command (澎湖防衛指揮部) conducted its first-ever nighttime live-fire training during the Zhenjiang (鎮疆) exercise on Thursday (Oct. 24) evening, aiming to enhance night combat capabilities by equipping military personnel with various night vision devices.
The exercise featured three stages: air defense engagement, coastal fire annihilation, and coastal combat, with 18 shooting positions set up along the coast.
In the air defense engagement, the scenario involved enemy drones attempting a nighttime aerial infiltration in the Wude (五德) area. CM22 mortar carriers launched illumination rounds to simulate aerial targets, demonstrating the unit's preparedness for such threats.
Chen Chun-yen (陳俊諺), the commander of the Penghu Defense Command Tactical Infantry Brigade, emphasized the importance of familiarizing troops with night vision devices to adapt to nighttime combat environments.
This exercise marks a significant step in enhancing Taiwan's military forces' night combat readiness, showcasing their ability to operate effectively under challenging conditions.
