TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (Metro Taipei, 台北捷運公司) announced on Friday (Oct. 25) that they have identified a man who urinated on an escalator at Zhongxiao Fuxing Station (忠孝復興站) and fined him NT$1,500.
The incident, captured and shared online by a commuter on Oct. 23, sparked public outrage over the breach of public decorum. The man, in his 50s, described as wearing a red shirt with long hair, was seen urinating while riding the escalator toward the Wenhu Line (文湖線). According to related reports, he claimed to have an urgent need to urinate as the reason for his actions.
Metro Taipei discovered the individual on Oct. 24 and fined him under the "Mass Rapid Transit Act" (大眾捷運法) while urging passengers to uphold the system's cleanliness.
In response to the incident, Metro Taipei dispatched 10 workers to thoroughly clean the escalator. The process involved disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly, taking nearly three hours. The company also plans to seek additional compensation for inspection and cleaning costs.
