TAIPEI (TVBS News) — McDonald's Taiwan reassured customers on Wednesday (Oct. 23) of its food safety measures following an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder in the United States.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported several cases of E. coli across multiple states, with one fatality. The outbreak has raised global concerns about the safety of McDonald's burgers. McDonald's North America has halted the distribution of shredded onions from the implicated supplier to prevent further contamination.
In response to the report, Taiwan McDonald's emphasized its distinct sourcing practices to ensure customer safety. The company imports beef patties from New Zealand and onions from Paraguay and New Australia, unlike the U.S., which sources ingredients domestically. Taiwan McDonald's further provided a self-inspection report from its suppliers to confirm compliance with safety standards.
