TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) announced on Wednesday (Oct. 23) that the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange (TCX, 台灣碳權交易所股份有限公司) has launched six priced trading projects from five major carbon-emitting sectors.

The announcement marked the official start of domestic carbon reduction quota trading, with prices ranging from NT$2,500 to NT$4,000 per ton.

The six projects, collectively offering a quota of 6,080 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, include initiatives from China Steel Corporation (CSSC, 中鋼公司), Taipei 101 (台北101大樓), and Chimei Corporation (奇美實業), among others. Each project targets specific sectors such as manufacturing, commercial energy efficiency, and renewable energy in agriculture.

The MOENV highlighted the projects as representative reduction measures across manufacturing, commercial buildings, biogas recovery, fuel substitution, and electric vehicle transition. They emphasized the importance of these initiatives in addressing greenhouse gas emissions.

Encouraging broad participation, the MOENV stated that it would carefully monitor the issuance of reduction quotas to ensure project effectiveness and promote voluntary carbon trading. This initiative aims to provide transparency and foster sustainable carbon reduction strategies.
