TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數位發展部) concluded the first phase of its public test for the "Online Scam Reporting and Inquiry Network" (網路詐騙通報查詢網) on Monday (Oct. 14). Over the two-week trial, users reported 22,793 suspected fraud messages, with Facebook and Instagram facing the highest number of take-down requests.
Since the test launch on Sept. 30, 12,501 people have downloaded the app, with 1,547 users actively reporting potential scams. The MODA highlighted the enthusiasm of users, noting that 48 individuals reported over 100 cases each, and one user reported more than 2,000 suspicious ads.
A news release from the MODA stated the public test achieved its initial objectives, leading to the temporary removal of the app for adjustments based on user feedback. These changes will focus on system and interface enhancements.
The ministry explained that the reported cases came from various sources, including public figures who reported hundreds of impersonation cases daily. The National Institute of Cyber Security (資安院), under the MODA, used AI technology to scan and identify thousands of suspicious scam messages online each day.
Due to the unexpectedly high volume of reports, the ministry has increased its workforce and continues to leverage AI to enhance processing speed and capacity. As the ministry refines the app, users can anticipate an improved version that addresses the feedback and challenges encountered during the initial test phase.
