TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 大陸委員會) on Tuesday (Oct. 1) urged Taiwanese artists working in China to cherish Taiwan's hard-earned democracy and freedom.
The council's statement came as China celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (中華人民共和國).
China Central Television (CCTV, 中國中央電視台) and People's Daily (人民日報) published celebratory articles, which many Taiwanese artists shared on Weibo (微博).
The MAC pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party (中國共產黨) often mobilizes Taiwanese artists for political statements during specific holidays or events.
The MAC acknowledged the pressure on Taiwanese artists in China to conform but encouraged them to consider Taiwanese society's perspective. They emphasized the importance of valuing Taiwan's democratic and free lifestyle.
Golden Horse Awards (金馬獎) Winner Wu Kang-ren (吳慷仁) announced his signing with Chinese agency Easy Entertainment (壹心娛樂) a day earlier. On Tuesday, he shared a celebratory article on Weibo, sending "Blessings to a Beautiful China" (祝福錦繡中華).
Other Taiwanese artists, including Wang Leehom (王力宏), Annie Yi (伊能靜), Cyndi Wang (王心凌), Angela Chang (張韶涵), Aska Yang (楊宗緯), Nicky Wu (吳奇隆), and Ouyang Didi (歐陽娣娣), also expressed their sentiments on Weibo.
