NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei District Court (新北地方法院) juvenile court division (少年法庭) on Monday (Sept. 30) sentenced a teenage boy to nine years in prison for Joint Offenses of Homicide (共同犯殺人罪) in connection with a fatal stabbing.
The boy's father, present at the hearing, accepted the decision, stating his son deserved the punishment.
The incident occurred on Dec. 25, 2023, when a female student from a New Taipei middle school visited another class during lunch break. A male student from that class asked her to leave. She then brought a male friend, who fatally stabbed the student with a switchblade.
In May, the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office (新北地檢署) indicted the boy and the girl for murder, and the case went to the juvenile court division. The court found the prosecutor's charges valid and sentenced the boy to nine years and the girl to eight years, applying Article 18, Section 2 of the Criminal Code (刑法), which allows reduced sentences for offenders aged 14 to 18.
Both fathers attended the hearing, but the victim's parents were absent due to caring for another child.
The boy's father mentioned his son's remorse during visits to the Juvenile Detention House (少年觀護所), saying the boy felt deep regret and sorrow for the victim. The girl's father declined interviews and left quickly.
