TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) emphasized the need for long-term planning in constructing a new stadium on Friday (Sept. 27).
Legislator Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) raised an issue in the Legislative Yuan, highlighting the Taipei Dome's high benefits and calling for a similar facility in southern Taiwan.
To this, Cho explained that "it's not easy to birth an egg, and it's even harder to raise one" to illustrate that the construction and maintenance of such a building requires detailed planning.
Tsai pointed out that since the Taipei Dome's inauguration, it has been fully booked for baseball games and other entertainment events.
He also noted that concerns about the economic benefits of the Taipei Dome have been dispelled by data from the past year.
Tsai mentioned that the hot or rainy weather in southern Taiwan often disrupts performances and professional sports, stressing the need for a dome in the region. He inquired about the Executive Yuan's stance if local governments and baseball teams were willing to invest.
Cho responded that constructing a dome requires careful consideration of location, safety, and functionality and must be managed by a professional team. He indicated support for the project if conditions are favorable, stating that local governments must provide suitable locations and ensure safety measures.
As the debate continues, stakeholders will likely push for detailed plans to address the logistical challenges and maximize the potential benefits of a new dome in southern Taiwan.
