NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) assured the public of her safety following a shooting incident near her residence on Wednesday (Sept. 25). She stated on Threads that she was not home during the event and confirmed her well-being.
Authorities arrested a suspect named Hsieh, who was involved in a major theft case in Yonghe District (永和), New Taipei City. The Criminal Investigation Bureau (刑事警察局) and police fired three shots to prevent Hsieh from crashing his vehicle and to ensure public safety. The incident occurred near Hsiao's residence, sparking concern within the national security system.
Hsiao thanked the criminal officers and law enforcement personnel for their hard work apprehending the suspect and hoped everyone stayed safe. Due to ongoing renovations at the official residence, Hsiao currently resides in Yonghe.
Police subdued Hsieh at the scene and took him to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for further investigation.
