TAINAN (TVBS News) — The Tainan City Government announced on Tuesday (Sept. 24) that the "Nan Ying International Folklore Festival" (南瀛國際民俗藝術節) will span from Oct. 5 to 13, bringing a vibrant array of cultural performances to Tainan.
During a municipal meeting, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) highlighted the festival will feature 26 performances by 21 international teams from 18 countries across five continents. He stressed that the city will not only offer high-quality performances, but also enhance citizen diplomacy and international city exchange through the festival.
First held in 1996, the biennial festival is Taiwan's oldest international folklore event. Due to the pandemic, the festival has faced cancellations or limited domestic participation for the past six years. This year marks a significant return to its international roots.
The festival will incorporate touring performances, cultural experiences, and promotional exchanges to immerse residents in global cultural arts while deepening their understanding of Tainan's local culture.
