TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) emphasized on Monday (Sept. 23) the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP, 民進黨) unwavering mission while celebrating the party's 38th anniversary.
During a luncheon at the Grand Hotel (圓山飯店), Lai, as the party's chairman outlined three core missions: safeguarding national survival and development, aligning with democratic allies to counter authoritarianism, and improving the lives of 23 million Taiwanese citizens.
Lai stressed the importance of the DPP's founding principles: integrity, diligent governance, and love for the homeland. He declared these values as Taiwan's collective assets. As both president and DPP chairman, Lai committed to maintaining Taiwan's sovereignty, asserting that the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other.
The president also vowed to strengthen national defense and economic development, particularly in collaboration with democratic allies to prevent authoritarian aggression. He underscored his dedication to enhancing the lives of Taiwanese people by boosting the technology sector and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.
Lai called on all party officials to uphold the DPP's legacy and spirit by nurturing talent and leading Taiwan forward. He insisted the party must continue its historical mission to guide Taiwan on the international stage, ensuring a better future for the next generation.
Lai concluded by inviting constructive criticism, stating that if the DPP does not do enough, he welcomes suggestions to guide and push them forward, so their team can continue to bear the heavy burden and responsibility entrusted by the Taiwanese people.
