TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The couch of Olympic boxing gold medalist Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) on Wednesday (Sept. 18) urged the government to establish a matchmaking platform or consultation channel for athletes' endorsements.
Boxing coach Tseng Tzu-chiang (曾自強) attended a public hearing on sustainable development for sports coaches and emphasized the need for better athlete protection in advertising deals.
Lin Yu-ting recently faced criticism for endorsing a mahjong (麻將) mobile game. Tseng remarked that there is no standard by which to judge whether an endorsement is good or bad.
He stated that the market mechanism will prevail if the government does not provide a matchmaking platform.
Tseng also mentioned his lack of experience as an agent, highlighting the need for future consultation services to offer athletes better security in their endorsement choices.
Badminton men's doubles gold medalist Lee Yang (李洋), who won his title in Paris this year, also recently endorsed a mahjong mobile game. Lee donated his million-dollar endorsement earnings to the Full Moon Stray Animal Sanctuary (月園流浪動物照護協會) to leverage his public influence and support more charitable organizations.
