TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Taiwan's Executive Yuan spokesperson Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) stated on Thursday (Aug. 1) that boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷)'s gender is beyond dispute, since the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved her participation in the Women's 57kg Boxing event at the Paris Games, and the government fully supports its athletes.

Controversy arose when renowned novelist J.K. Rowling and former Irish boxing champion Barry McGuigan questioned Lin's gender and eligibility. On July 30, Rowling posted on X, stating, "What will it take to end this insanity? A female boxer left with life-altering injuries? A female boxer killed?"

This is not the first time Lin has faced gender testing controversies. In the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships,  the International Boxing Association informed Lin that she had failed the pre-competition gender test after reaching the semifinals, resulting in the cancellation of her bronze medal.

Later, Lin was vindicated with assistance from the Sports Administration (體育署), and won gold in the women's 57kg boxing category at the Asian Games Hangzhou the same year.
