TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) will convene a cross-party negotiation on Wednesday (Sept. 18) to discuss the opening date of the new legislative session. The Kuomintang (KMT), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) have previously reached a tentative consensus to start the session on Sept. 20.
DPP Caucus Secretary-General Wu Szu-yao (吳思瑤) confirmed that Sept. 20 is an appropriate date and expressed hope that Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) will deliver the Executive Yuan's policy report on that day.
Wu noted that Sept. 20 coincides with National Disaster Prevention Day, which includes a large-scale earthquake drill and a nationwide alert at 9:21 a.m. She suggested pausing the session during the drill.
KMT legislative caucus Secretary-General Lin Szu-ming (林思銘) affirmed the consensus and announced that the KMT caucus will hold a legislative workshop on Sept. 19 to discuss key bills for the session.
At the workshop, outgoing KMT caucus Secretary-General Hung Mong-kai (洪孟楷) will hand over duties to Lin, with Han delivering a speech and KMT legislative Caucus Whip Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁) presiding over the meeting.
Despite the agreement, TPP Caucus Whip Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) urged an earlier start and criticized the DPP's proposal, suggesting it might accommodate legislators' vacations.
TPP Legislative Yuan Caucus Director Chen Chih-han (陳智菡) stated that although an earlier date was not agreed upon, the TPP caucus has prepared an agenda. They plan to propose that Premier Cho and other officials present a special report on energy allocation and economic development policies.
