TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported Monday (Sept. 16) that a sizeable low-pressure system continues to affect the region. This system is expected to influence weather conditions during Tuesday's Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節), resulting in varying chances of moon viewing across the island.

Heavy rain is forecasted in the eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) on Tuesday. Greater Taipei’s eastern side will experience considerable cloud cover and potential short-term showers. In contrast, the western half of Taiwan will see mostly cloudy to clear skies, with a possibility of afternoon thunderstorms.

Due to these conditions, residents in the western regions are more likely to view the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Northern areas will generally see the moon, although occasional cloud cover is expected. However, the eastern half, including Keelung's Northern Coast (北海岸), the northeast corner (東北角), and Hengchun Peninsula, will face thick clouds and sporadic showers, reducing moon-viewing chances.

From Wednesday through Sunday, the low-pressure system will continue to affect Taiwan, leading to unstable weather conditions. Northern and eastern regions, Hengchun Peninsula, and Matsu (馬祖) will experience intermittent short-term showers, while other areas will see cloudy skies with potential afternoon thunderstorms.

The bureau also advises monitoring the potential impact of Tropical Storm Pulasan (葡萄桑), as its path could affect rainfall patterns across Taiwan.
