TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) emphasized Taiwan's shared values of freedom and democracy with Guatemala on Wednesday (Sept. 11), highlighting the nations' mutual commitment to facing global challenges together.
Guatemala celebrated its 203rd Independence Day with a reception in Taipei on Wednesday. Daniela Ortiz Figueroa, Guatemala's representative to Taiwan, hosted the event, which Vice Foreign Minister Remus Li-Kuo Chen (陳立國) also attended.
The vice president thanked Guatemala for its longstanding support of Taiwan on the international stage. She affirmed Taiwan's appreciation for the friendship and pledged continued collaboration with democratic partners to maintain regional stability and prosperity.
Ortiz noted that Taiwan is Guatemala's second-largest sugar export market. She also mentioned that Guatemalan coffee enjoys significant popularity in Taiwan, highlighting that the two nations will work together to create a prosperous mutual future.
