TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Culture Minister Li Yuan (李遠) announced plans on Wednesday (Sept. 11) to lower the age for receiving Culture Points (文化幣) to 13, aiming to encourage children to spend at bookstores and engage with the publishing industry.

The minister made the announcement during the Golden Tripod Awards (金鼎獎) ceremony.

Li, who also won a Golden Tripod Award under his pen name Hsiao Yeh (小野), expressed his commitment to giving back to the publishing industry. He emphasized the importance of cultivating reading habits from a young age to attract more book buyers and strengthen the ecosystem.

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) highlighted that, for the first time, the Ministry of Culture's (MOC, 文化部) budget has exceeded NT$30 billion. Cho expressed his hope to maintain this budget and called on Li and the cultural community to continue their efforts.

Cho also urged the MOC to engage in broader discussions to ensure policies meet the current needs of Taiwan's cultural workers. He stressed that the budget should be effectively used for the people.
