TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Chinese national, surnamed Ruan (阮), submitted a statement requesting the court forward his alleged military intelligence to the National Security Bureau (國安局) during a Shilin District Court hearing on Tuesday (Sept. 10). The court will deliver its verdict on Sept. 18.
Ruan piloted a speedboat from Fujian Province in China to Taiwan on June 8 to allegedly seek asylum.
Ruan arrived at the Tamsui River ferry pier the following morning around 9 a.m. before he was detained by Coast Guard officials. On Aug. 14, the Shilin District Prosecutors Office indicted him for violating immigration laws.
The district court stated that a panel of judges would determine how to handle Ruan's claims and statements. The prosecutor's office noted that Ruan did not disclose the military intelligence during the investigation.
