TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Lin Yu-chang (林右昌), the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) secretary-general, announced Tuesday (Sept. 10) that their recent U.S. visit concluded successfully, and emphasized the DPP's continued efforts to promote Taiwan's democracy and prosperity.
During the visit, Lin attended a picnic hosted by the Taiwanese community in San Francisco and participated in a speech by former Vice President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁). Invited by the Taiwanese American Federation of Northern California, Lin highlighted Taiwan's critical role in maintaining Indo-Pacific peace before Chen's speech.
Lin also interacted with the Taiwanese diaspora at events organized by the North America Taiwanese Women's Association-Northern California Chapter, the Silicon Valley Taiwanese American Association, the Taiwanese Alliance for Interculture, and the Formosan Association for Public Affairs-Northern California Chapter.
In Los Angeles, Lin concluded the 13-day visit and attended a DPP anniversary celebration. He stressed that since its founding in 1986, the DPP has been committed to defending freedom, democracy, and human rights. Lin also visited the Taiwan Center in Rosemead and dined with the local Taiwanese community in Orange County.
Lin noted that with the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Taiwan aims to enhance its international engagement platform and boost its influence in global sports and diplomacy.
The DPP stated that the successful U.S. visit strengthened ties with the overseas Taiwanese community and demonstrated the party's determination to promote international exchange and cooperation.
Lin affirmed the DPP's commitment to Taiwan's democracy and prosperity, uniting global Taiwanese to showcase Taiwan and create a brighter future.
