TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Minister of Education said Thursday (July 11) that Taiwan aims to surpass its previous performances in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
In a press conference, cabinet spokesman Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) relayed Premier Cho Jung-tai's (卓榮泰) statement that the Taiwanese delegation has secured 60 spots across 16 sports, including weightlifting, archery, and table tennis. Additionally, Taiwan has qualified for new events like canoeing and breaking.
For the first time, a 30-member sports science support team will provide nutrition, physical therapy, and training to support the athletes better. Cho emphasized that ensuring the athletes' safety is a top priority and called for inter-agency cooperation to establish a safety reporting mechanism.
Cho will see off the delegation at the airport on the evening of July 19 and expressed his hopes for the athletes to "bring home medals and return safely." Taiwan will also participate in cultural events that will be held alongside the Olympics to promote international exchange and cooperation.
Minister of Education Lin Teng-chiao (林騰蛟) reiterated the goal to surpass previous performances. At the same time, Chen promised the best backup support for athletes, regardless of their results, to help them perform to their full potential.
