TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foreign Deputy Minister Remus Chen (陳立國) hosted a luncheon on Wednesday (July 10) for the visiting delegation from the Junge Union (JU) of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) in Germany. Johannes Winkel, the delegation leader, praised Taiwan's resilience in the face of regional challenges and its commitment to democracy.
Chen and Winkel discussed various topics, including Taiwan's political and economic situation, issues concerning the younger generation, combating misinformation, and national defense. Chen emphasized the long-standing relationship between Taiwan and the JU, expressing hope for continued bilateral youth exchanges through working holiday programs and Taiwan scholarships.
Chen also thanked German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach for supporting Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly and Klaus-Peter Willsch, head of the German-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, for leading a delegation to congratulate President Lai on his inauguration.
Winkel highlighted Taiwan's strategic geopolitical importance and resilience, stating that he would share these insights with JU members upon returning to Germany and expressed his commitment to supporting deeper ties between Taiwan and Germany.
