TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Olympic gold medalist Lee Yang (李洋) announced his retirement on Sunday (Sept. 8). Lee also revealed his new plans, expressing a desire to cycle around Taiwan and watch an NBA game in the U.S.
Lee shared that he spent more than half of each year outside Taiwan during his career. Even in Taiwan, he trained at the National Sports Training Center (NSTC, 國訓中心), leaving him unfamiliar with his home country. He looks forward to exploring Taiwan more deeply now that he has retired.
The badminton star specifically mentioned his wish to cycle around the island, allowing him to enjoy and rediscover Taiwan thoroughly. He also strongly desired to attend an NBA game, particularly one featuring the San Antonio Spurs.
Lee, alongside Wang Chi-Lin (王齊麟), secured the men's doubles gold medal at the Olympics earlier this year, becoming the first pair to defend their title successfully. Lee will start teaching at his alma mater, the National Taiwan University of Sport (NTUS, 國立臺灣體育運動大學), on Monday.
