TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei 101 (台北101) appointed prominent Taiwanese personality Janet Chia (賈永婕) as chairwoman during a board meeting on Tuesday (Sept. 3). Chia, who discussed the offer with her husband for three days before accepting, described herself as a newcomer eager to take on the challenge.
Chia aims to enhance visitor numbers and revenue for the observatory, positioning it as an international landmark. She wants to make the observatory a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike.
Meanwhile, her first task involved reappointing current president Lillian Chu (朱麗文). She emphasized their complementary roles, stating, "Chu is responsible for professionalism and precision; I'm responsible for beauty and fashion."
Chia admitted her weakness in financial matters but expressed confidence in collaborating with Chu and the entire team. She hopes her strengths will bring new energy and innovation to Taipei 101.
She told reporters that her husband began jokingly calling her "Chair Chia" these days, a title she finds somewhat distant. Though feeling the pressure of the new role, she remained optimistic due to the team's excellence.
The Ministry of Finance (財政部) expressed hope that Chia's expertise in fashion and marketing would rejuvenate and internationalize Taipei 101. They praised Chu's continued strong performance, leading to her reappointment at the board meeting that day.
