KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) vowed on Friday (Aug. 30) to provide the best care for firefighters at the city government and hospitals. He urged the Fire Bureau to review the conditions when the firefighters were on duty following a recent incident.
On Thursday (Aug. 29), a fire broke out in an apartment on Zhonghua 4th Road (中華四路) in Cianjin District (前金區), Kaohsiung. The Fire Bureau dispatched 14 vehicles and 40 personnel, rescuing three people. No civilians required medical attention.
However, two firefighters, surnamed Yeh and Wang, suffered injuries. Yeh sustained burns on his arms and legs, while Wang had neck burns and received preventive intubation treatment.
Mayor Chen requested Fire Bureau Chief Wang Chih-ping (王志平) to examine if there are areas for improvement in the response to such incidents.
The fire originated in a bar on the first floor, with rental suites above. To ensure public safety, the city government plans to conduct joint inspections of specific locations.
