TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced on Wednesday (July 31) city plans to hold the National Day Gala (國慶晚會) at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋) in October. Pending approvals, this event could mark the first non-sporting event at the venue.
The National Day Preparation Committee (國慶籌備委員會) indicated that a final decision on the venue will likely come by the end of August. Since the Taipei Dome must pass a fire safety inspection before hosting any non-sporting events, including concerts, they have the National Taiwan University Sports Center (台大體育館) as a backup location.
Wang Hung-shiang (王泓翔), the city government's Department of Sports commissioner, stressed that once the fire safety verification is completed and the event plan is submitted, the city government will convene different departments to review various aspects, including fire safety, traffic, security, and environmental protection.
A committee member emphasized that the Taipei Dome remains the preferred venue for the National Day Gala. However, they noted that Mayor Chiang's statement only confirms that the Taipei Dome can meet regulatory requirements while awaiting the safety report.
