TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Asia Society (美國智庫亞洲協會) announced the 2024 Asia 21 Next Generation Fellows (亞洲21青年領袖) on Wednesday (Aug. 28), naming Eddy Lin (林彥廷), a former co-founder of the Taiwan Youth Association for Democracy (台灣青年民主協會), as the sole Taiwanese honoree.
Lin, who initiated the "Back Home and Vote" initiative (青年民主返鄉列車) to encourage young voters to return home for elections and organized the "Presidential Election Youth Forum" (總統大選青年論壇), now oversees public policy and government affairs for Amazon in Taiwan.
He previously worked at Meta, advocating for local social media governance, and has served as a public television children's show host and president of the 30th National Taiwan University Student Association.
In a press release, the Asia Society stated that this year's fellows comprise advocates, artists, educators, journalists, and business and policy leaders from diverse fields. The society will host a summit in Singapore from Dec. 6 to 8 under the theme "Leading with Impact, Driving Change Together."
This year, the Asia Society selected 38 individuals from 26 countries and regions, aiming to cultivate, connect, and empower the next generation of leaders in the Asia-Pacific region.
Notable past Taiwanese fellows include Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), Ghost Island Media founder Emily Wu (吳怡慈), Metropolitan Museum of Art associate curator Lesley Ma (馬唯中), and ClickMedix founder Ting Shih (石亭芝).
