TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Authorities warn that violaters could be fined up to NT$300,000 after completing an on-site inspection at the Taiwan Glass Building (台玻大樓) on the third floor following allegations of unauthorized interior renovations by Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) on Tuesday (Aug. 27).
The Taipei City Construction Management Office (台北市建管處) conducted the inspection today to compare the renovation status with the relevant license drawings.
The inspection could lead to penalties if any violations are found. Ko, however, has denied initiating any construction work.
Commissioner Cheng Dah-chuan (鄭大川) revealed that an application for interior renovations at the address was submitted on July 26. He added that the application is still under review, and no construction permit has been issued yet.
Cheng explained that, according to building regulations, interior renovations such as ceiling work, wall modifications, and partition changes require approval.
Unauthorized renovations in public-use buildings can result in fines ranging from NT$60,000 to NT$300,000. Offenders must also rectify the situation or complete the necessary procedures within a specified period. The Taipei City Construction Management Office will handle any violations in accordance with these regulations.
Authorities urge compliance with building laws to avoid penalties and ensure public safety. Further developments will depend on the findings of the ongoing inspection and review process.
