TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Japanese animated masterpiece "Your Name" (你的名字) will return to theaters in Taiwan on Sept. 13, eight years after its global sensation. The announcement of the re-release has sparked excitement among Taiwanese fans.
Many expressed their joy, with one stating, "This is the only movie I've watched five times in my life," and another adding, "I can finally make up for not being able to watch it back then!"
In the movie, director Makoto Shinkai (新海誠) weaves a tale of two teenagers who share a profound, magical connection upon discovering they are swapping bodies.
Shinkai found inspiration for "Your Name." in a 2014 commercial he directed for Japan's cram school "Z-Kai" (Z會). The ad, "CROSS ROAD," depicts two high school students from Tokyo and the countryside who meet while preparing for university entrance exams.
In China, "Your Name" was re-released on July 19, drawing a large number of young fans to theaters. Within just six days, it grossed approximately NT$426 million, with total box office earnings in China now exceeding around NT$3.036 billion.
