NANTOU (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Tuesday (Aug. 20) urged Taiwan Railway (台鐵) to develop rail tourism, showcasing each route's unique features to attract international tourists. He made this statement while inspecting the infrastructure of the Jiji Line (集集支線), emphasizing its historical significance and diverse development.
Cho also noted the importance of adhering to safety principles and swiftly completing improvements to the tracks, station facilities, and tunnel slopes. He stated that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (交通部, MOTC) will support the tourism industry's recovery and development through various policies once the project is completed.
Meanwhile, Cho stressed the need for local governments' assistance to promote regional features and attract tourists to Taiwan's rail tourism. He hoped for central and local government cooperation to showcase Taiwan's beauty.
He also highlighted the need to protect the natural ecosystem during construction, mainly where the Leopard Cats have been sighted. Cho stated that we can achieve a civilized society by harmonizing with nature and preserving diverse ecosystems.
