TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's young players triumphed over Cuba with a decisive 10-2 victory in the Little League Baseball World Series (LLB, 世界少棒錦標賽) on Tuesday (Aug. 20) in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, United States. This win sets the stage for a showdown with Japan on Aug. 22 at 1 a.m. (Taipei time).
Representing the Asia-Pacific region, the Guishan Elementary School's (龜山國小) team from Taoyuan (桃園) played their third game in the series. Taiwan's young athletes faced an initial setback in the first inning when Cuba scored two runs with consecutive hits. Both teams displayed flawless pitching and defense in the second and third innings, preventing further scoring.
In the fourth inning, Taiwan managed to secure a run with a base hit. The game took a dramatic turn in the fifth inning when pitcher Chiu Wei-che (邱唯喆) hit a rare grand slam, propelling Taiwan to a 6-2 lead. Taiwan continued to dominate in the sixth inning, expanding their lead to 10-2 with the bases loaded.
The LLB saw Taiwan advance to face Cuba after defeating teams from Canada and Australia. The upcoming match against Japan promises to be another thrilling contest as Taiwan aims to continue its winning streak.
