TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Presidential Office (總統府) will celebrate its Olympic athletes on Friday (Aug. 16) with a grand parade titled "Our Heroes! Team Taiwan." The event, starting at 1 p.m., honors the national team for securing two gold and five bronze medals at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The parade will feature 67 athletes and coaches. Lee Yang (李洋), the men's badminton doubles gold medalist, will be absent due to traveling in Japan. His father will represent him.
Expected attendees include Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟), gold medalist in men's badminton doubles, Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷), gold medalist in women's boxing 57 kg, Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳), bronze medalist in women's weightlifting 59 kg, and Tang Chia-hung (唐嘉鴻), bronze medalist in men's horizontal bar.
In addition to athletes and coaches, the parade will include taekwondo athlete Lo Chia-ling's (羅嘉翎) brother, fencer Chen Yi-tung's (陳弈通) parents, eight international judges, and the Paris Olympics logistics team. The procession will start at 3 p.m. from Section 1, Chongqing South Road (重慶南路一段) in front of the Presidential Office, then turn right onto Xiangyang Road (襄陽路), left onto Guanqian Road (館前路), and finish at the intersection of Zhongxiao West Road (忠孝西路) and Zhongshan South Road (中山南路).
Spectators can catch a glimpse of Taiwan's heroes along Chongqing South Road, Xiangyang Road, Guanqian Road to Zhongxiao East Road (忠孝東路), or from the overpass on Zhongxiao West Road. The event will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person.
