TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Wen-huei (陳玟卉) placed sixth in the 71-kilogram weightlifting event at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 early Saturday (Aug. 10). Chen reflected on her performance, attributing her results to being overly anxious and expressed hopes for better outcomes in future Olympics.
Chen lifted 103 kilograms in the snatch and 133 kilograms in the clean and jerk, totaling 236 kilograms. At the Tokyo Olympics, Chen won a bronze medal in the 64-kilogram category. This year, the change in weight categories forced her to compete in the 71-kilogram class, which increased the difficulty.
Chen remarked that while her physical condition was satisfactory, her anxiety affected her performance. Before the event, she aimed not only to complete the competition but also to win a better medal than her previous Olympics, a goal she ultimately could not achieve.
Despite the setback, Chen remains optimistic. She noted that her goals extend beyond the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 and hopes to perform better at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
