TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taiwan’s artistic gymnast Tang Chia-hung (唐嘉鴻), known as Asia's "King of Cats," revealed plans on Thursday (Aug. 8) to innovate and increase the difficulty of his signature Yamawaki move, aiming to secure a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Tang, alongside "Gymnastics Elf" Ting Hua-tien (丁華恬) and canoe sprint athletes Wu Shao-hsuan (吳少璿) and Chang Chu-han (張筑涵), returned to Taiwan at 7:10 a.m.
Tang secured a bronze medal in the men's horizontal bar event at the Olympic Games and expressed gratitude for the support he received. Reflecting on his second Olympic experience, Tang said he was honored to successfully advance through the preliminaries and withstand the pressure to reach the finals.
Despite not performing perfectly, Tang emphasized his efforts to showcase Taiwan's spirit, noting, "Taiwanese athletes never give up."
Tang attempted the G-difficulty Cassina move on the horizontal bar but fell. He smiled through the setback and earned praise for his resilience.
Reflecting on the moment, Tang said he thought the competition was over but immediately shifted his mindset to demonstrate Taiwan's spirit. He told himself not to think about the failure and score but to focus on putting his best foot forward for the judges and the world to see.
Tang aims to enhance his stability and difficulty in future routines. He reiterated his commitment to refining the Yamawaki move and expressed hopes for a gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics.
