TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) announced Wednesday night (Aug. 7) that Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) faced unjust attacks from the International Boxing Association (IBA) and therefore requested the Sports Administration to take legal action to ensure Lin competes without worries.

Lin, Taiwan's 57kg category boxing representative, advanced to the gold medal match at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in the early hours of Thursday (Aug. 8). President Lai stated on Facebook before Lin's semifinal match that she could challenge for Taiwan's first Olympic boxing gold if she advanced.

Lin eventually delivered by proving her strength amid the unfounded gender allegations made by the IBA. The IBA disqualified Lin from the 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi based on failed chromosomal tests but failed to provide supporting evidence for the test results.

President Lai highlighted that despite the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) public support, Lin still faced criticism and bullying, enduring significant unfair pressure. Consequently, Lai instructed the Sports Administration to express strong protest and take corresponding legal measures to ensure athletes compete confidently and perform their best.

President Lai expressed admiration for Lin's positive attitude under pressure and her sportsmanship, stating she demonstrated her strength to the world and fought for glory for herself and Taiwan.
