TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese female boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) secured a spot in the semifinals after defeating Bulgaria's Staneva Svetlana Kamenova 5-0 in the quarterfinals on Sunday (Aug. 4). This victory guarantees Lin at least a bronze medal, as there is no bronze medal boxing match.
Lin and Kamenova previously faced off at the 2023 World Championships, where Lin won 5-2. However, the International Boxing Association (IBA) later stripped Lin of her bronze medal due to "abnormal gender biochemical test results," awarding it to Kamenova instead.
Before their rematch at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, Lin became embroiled in another gender controversy. The Bulgarian Olympic Committee issued a statement opposing Lin's participation, attempting to play psychological games.
Lin faced unfounded accusations regarding her gender again at the Olympics. Her coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang (曾自強), expressed his frustration, stating, "I can't even use 'heartbreaking' to describe my feeling."
