PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwanese badminton player Chou Tien-chen (周天成) triumphed over Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu (李卓耀) on Wednesday (July 31) in the final group match of the men's singles badminton event at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, advancing to the round of 16.
Chou's straight-sets victory electrified the court, and he celebrated by raising his right fist and shouting in exhilaration. In a post-match interview, Chou expressed his desire to boost the morale of all Taiwanese athletes. He also revealed that he stayed tuned to other events like judo, archery, and table tennis during his downtime.
Chou credited his meticulous preparation for the match, which began as soon as he knew the draw. He emphasized the importance of maintaining his form and executing his strategies consistently for the upcoming round of 16, stating that he has faith in himself regardless of his opponent.
In early 2023, Chou revealed his diagnosis of early-stage colon cancer, but he has since fully recovered after treatment. His resilient performance at the Olympics showcases his determination to bring glory to Taiwan.
