PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwanese athletes faced challenges and triumphs at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, as "Taiwanese Judo Queen" Lien Chen-ling (連珍羚) on Monday (July 29) lost to Serbia's Marica Perisic in the round of 16, ending her hopes for a comeback.
On the other hand, Chen Yi-tung (陳弈通) advanced to the round of 32 in fencing by defeating Lebanon's Philippe Wakim but lost to France's Enzo Lefort. The Men's Archery team, consisting of Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞), Tai Yu-hsuan (戴宇軒), and Lin Tzu-hsiang (林子翔), overcame the U.K. 6-0 in the round of 16 but fell to China 1-5 in the quarterfinals, missing out on a medal.
Boxers also had mixed results. Lai Chu-en (賴主恩) lost 2-3 to Kazakhstan's Bazarbay Uulu Mukhammedsabyr in the Men's 63.5 kg category. In contrast, Wu Shih-yi (吳詩儀) advanced to the Women's 60 kg quarterfinals after defeating South Korea's Oh Yeon-ji and benefiting from Nigeria's Cynthia Ogunsemilore disqualification.
Table tennis stars Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜) and Kao Cheng-jui (高承睿) advanced to the round of 16 by beating Romania's Elizabeta Samara and Eduard Ionescu, respectively. Shooter Yang Kun-pi (楊昆弼) scored 72 points on the first day of the Trap Men's Qualification, placing him 11th.
As the Olympics continue, Taiwanese athletes remain determined to achieve their goals despite the setbacks.
